Science
We humans, like any other living thing, need air, water and food to live. In addition, we have all three survival instincts: self-preservation, reproduction, and communication. We use each of them in a different way to satisfy our needs. As a result of these simple laws, we have developed a civilization that distinguishes us from our predecessors and the rest of the animal world. These laws are still valid today and this helps us to live well.
Based on my knowledge of nutrition and lifestyle at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York, I had the opportunity to change my life and help those who entrusted me through a unique concept. It defines the relationships we build with each other as food of fundamental importance and that is why I define it as primary (along with career, physical activity and spirituality). The balance of primary foods allows easy and proper absorption of secondary foods (everything we take through our mouth). This rests on countless works in the field of psychology and is so important that if the primary foods are well balanced, there is no way to misuse or overdo the secondary ones (leading to gaining weight or diseases). Unbelievable, isn't it!?
In other words, in order to experience pleasure, happiness and a nice feelings, many things work for us. With their help we get our shot of hormones that determine our mood as a result of our activities. The goal is to achieve this in the healthiest and most sustainable way - without disease, excess weight and drama.
Where are we?
Mother Evolution doesn’t rest for a moment and one of her whims is what partner we prefer. In all animal communities, this manifests itself in different ways and always has a certain evolutionary direction, whether we comprehend it or not using our brains. The fact is that polygamy and homosexuality are present in many species, including both in human and at different stages of the human civilization development, they have been accepted in different ways - from norm and standard to complete prohibition and punishment. Only 31 years ago, the WHO excluded homosexuality as a psychiatric disease from its list of the international classification of diseases. In the last decade, we have also witnessed a review of legislation in a number of countries, as well as a change in public opinion.
Everyday life
All this, however, doesn’t always solve with a magic wand the various challenges that some of us have in our daily lives. Apart from this, for a number of reasons (such as psyche, family values and beliefs, etc.), many men and women still find it difficult to admit — for themselves — what they like and prefer. They remain pushed out from the society in its darkest corner and, thus, they begin to chronically suffer from dopamine deficiency. This upsets the balance of primary foods by the textbooks and the victim compensates that eating secondary foods. Among them, the strongest narcotic effect is deliver by sweets, cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. So, the first sign of inability to share either at home, or with friends, who we like, puts us in front of the refrigerator, the cupboard with chocolate or sweet treats.
Escape from reality
Secondary foods work for a while. As the lack of proper foods and their disturbed balance slows down the metabolism, the body becomes increasingly prone to toxin retention. This predisposes the individual to a development of diseases and putting on extra pounds. As a result, the victim falls into a vicious circle of impaired self-esteem and hunger for more dopamine, which opens the Pandora's box with alcohol and drugs.
And so it turns out that the sexual instinct, which we inherit and is so important for the formation of a healthy psyche, is a subject of many taboos, millions worldwide suffer from.
Possible solutions
Society still treats differently the odd ones. Therefore, the common ground among a chiseled macho, a fluffy cutie and a virtuoso pianist may simply be an imbalance in primary foods - both in a surplus or in a shortage.
One of the solutions is working with a specialist (psychologist, psychotherapist, nutrition coach, family constellations) to help a person get out of the corner of oblivion. This person’s expression of desire for change is a necessity and sufficiency. Otherwise, it constitute an assault upon a person — as much as harmful as the barbaric practices such as those changing sexual orientation. That is why awareness is the first step for such a change, and motivation is its drive.
Bio-individuality
The biggest breakthrough one may make is realizing one’s uniqueness. Our bodies are perfect and precise biocomputers and any attempt to deceive them leads to error. Such mistakes are either the obesity or the diseases. And, as we saw above, we can please ourselves in many different ways — by having food, sex, exercising, listening to music, etc.
You are special and unique as you are. By self-acceptance, you take a decisive first step toward self-knowledge, love, and self-preservation. Why not do it the easy and gallant way?
Happy Pride, everyone! You are special!
