Herbal Cough Syrup


Prep Notes

This easy to make homemade syrup intends to soothe the cough (but not suppress it). The brandy is optional and used only as preservative (up to 4 months) in it.

Ingredients

  • 1l water;
  • handful of fresh thyme (100 g) or 50 g dry thyme;
  • 250 g bee honey;
  • 4 tbsp brandy

Directions

  1. Bring water to boil, add the thyme, cover with a lid left slightly ajar, and reduce to simmer until liquid halves (45 minutes);
  2. Strain the liquid from the herbs and let it cool. When just warm add honey and brandy, and whisk until smooth;
  3. Store in a tight, dark glassed bottle, in the fridge for 4 months.

Notes

Alternative:

  • If alcohol is not appropriate ingredient (children, intolerance), skip the brandy and store likewise for 4 weeks
